Kanna Leaves – Sceletium tortuosum | Crushed or Powdered

🌿 Kanna Leaves – Sceletium tortuosum | Crushed or Powdered for Ritual & Educational Use

Reconnect with ancient South African plant wisdom through Kanna — a revered botanical with centuries of ceremonial and cultural significance.

Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) is a succulent plant native to the arid regions of South Africa, where it has been used for over 300 years by Indigenous Khoisan communities. Traditionally prepared through fermentation and drying, this sacred herb was known as kougoed, the traditional Khoekhoe name for the prepared plant — and was valued for its role in social, spiritual, and meditative practices.

🌼 Historical & Ceremonial Significance

• Cultural Heritage: Kanna was used in rites of passage, communal gatherings, and spiritual ceremonies as part of community life and connection. It was often exchanged as a form of barter.

• Ritual Use: In Khoisan tradition, Kanna was prepared and shared within ceremonial and communal contexts, where it held symbolic and cultural significance.

• Spiritual Practice: Today, Kanna continues to be honoured in non-consumptive rituals such as altar work, botanical meditation, and ancestral offerings.
